Default FINALLY getting an 883

First off, thanks to everyone who posted in my last thread. Some of you helped greatly.

Well, I went in last night and talked to Jeff (the salesman) and he told me that the 883 Iron was absolutely not a posibility because it's so new. Would end up costing around $14,000...

So, basically, I put $1800 down on a sportster that I have no clue what it's going to be, but I will get one when the next shipment comes in. I'm hoping for a Custom Low.

Here is what I have planned:
-Custom tank (ones on the Nightster and Iron. I know if I get a Custom 883, it will already have it)
-Engine powder coating (I HATE CHROME! Chrome on my bike will be kept to the minimal amount in every way possible.
-Misc. powder coating
-Mini Ape bars
-Screamin' Eagle breather (or something of the sort, most likely, will be something else.)
-New pipes. Will def. be short, black, and edgy. I want it to scream and look badass at the same time.
-I really want to shorten the rear fender, and get rid of the ugly tail light assembly, so I will have to work that out somehow...

Anywho, what do y'all think about all of that? Mind you, it will take place over a period of time, the tank and engine will most likely be my top priorites. I wish I could get it all done at once, but that's just not very financially possible.
I will definately be posting up some pics when I get it and when I make changes.

Why didn't you go to a dealer that actually would deal in reality for an Iron if that's what you wanted? Jesus, for that much more, you could travel across the country and ride an Iron home for cheaper than what that dealer dreams of getting for one.

Why in the world would you put money down on a bike or anyting else without knowing exatly what you were buying? I don't know where you live but here in Ohio evey dealership I've been to recently has a floor full of sportsters.

I think Thet is military stationed in Japan, at least I think so, and the costs correlate.

Don't Do It!! I ordered my Dyna Superglide Custom from Oversees military sales and got exactly what I wanted for 1 grand below MSRP. You should be able to pick out exactly what you want. I emailed to a dealer/salesman in Germany who worked for AAFES and he got me exactly what I wanted. Only issue I had was I got a California edition which has the BS emissions system, that comes off in about 1/2 hour.

14k for a 883! Holychit!!! MSRP for a street bob is around 12k. I'd never pay over 6k for a sportster, just buy one that's a year old, save yourself some dough kid.

+1 I agree.. I would rather get a 08 and spend the extra $$$ on extras and GET WHAT I WANT.. then spend that much on something that I don't.. in the end you will probably just end up trading it up and getting another bike that you want.. if that's the case.. just get what you want and save yourself the pain..

but its your money.. just my .02˘

Anyone who posted actually follow his first thread? I think if you want the 883, and from the first thread you do, go for it! Get the bike you want and then make it yours. Sucks you can't get the iron but you can take that 883 and make it a bad *** bike. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Sucks that you have to go through all that bs while serving your country but let me say this, thank you! Get it and ride!

+ 1 on getting a used '08 with low milage. Check around...you'll save thousands off that $14K price and be MUCH happier. There's no difference in the '08 and '09 models so why pay the extra $4k+? I think a new 883 here is about $10K out the door. Get a used one and you'll save maybe $6-8K.

I suppose only one of you guys has actually read my first thread.
I am in Japan. Japan is NOT Germany. For some reason, Japan hates us. Wonder why. Haha. Anywho, ALL American made cars must go to mainland Japan to get inspected, swap any parts they have a problem with, and then shipped to Okinawa, where I am stationed.

Also, buying used is out of the question. I have tried and tried to find a used sportster. Hell, I'm not even particular on the year, but I can't find one. There just arn't that many on the island.
