Over the last couple of weeks I did some upgrades and preventive maintenance on my 2003 883 Sporty. I did an oil change, new plugs (screaming eagle), forward controls and installed a screaming eagle air cleaner. I noticed now, and maybe it should be this way, that it seems to rev higher when I pull back on the throttle, like I need to upshift (even in 5th) but levels off. Is this normal, is my bike just running better than I am used to? It was a dog before. One more note, it had the California stock air cleaner on it before, I ripped that crap out, I don’t live in Cali.
Unless the clutch is slipping from increased torque, the revs shouldn't be any different. The gearing, pulleys and tire size are all still the same. It might be that your perception of RPM is different because the sound will change with a better breather.
If the clutch is slipping, you need to take care of it right away. There isn't much lining on the plates to start with, and they'll burn up quick if slipping. Did you adjust the clutch and/or change primary fluid during the preventive maintenance? What are you using for primary fluid?

Hmm, I also did put new clutch and brake levels on the bike. So I did adjust the clutch cable. I will have to check that. As for the primary oil. I have not check that since I purchased the bike. Something else I should do. Thanks for the help.
