Default Options For Bobbed Fender Struts?

'92 1200

The bike I bought has the rear fender already bobbed, and a custom-made sissy bar with fender and signal light mounts built in - a one-piece deal. I'm not loving the sissy bar and would probably need to add fender struts to change it out, but I'm pretty sure the stock fender struts/covers will be too long.

I'm not sure what the frame part of the struts looks like, but I think the fender will attach there - of course it won't be very sturdy in that case.

So what have you guys done in this situation? Any aftermarket solutions you've heard of or used?

Here's a pic of my '93 with the stock struts.

Debrix has stock strut covers.

After that not sure way you are looking for without seeing pics of current setup.

You know it would be really helpful if you could post a picture so we could see what you're talking about.Allot of things can be done with the fender struts a couple or three of the Dyna guys have just chopped them completely off and a few have cut them back to the first fender mounting point.

Yeah, Ed, you made me go and take pics. (Which I find I can now upload!) And upon closer examination, it looks like the conversion was done with professionally-shortened fender struts. The signal mounts are welded onto the chrome bracket, though, so I'll have to figure a new way to deal with those.

From the pics, can anyone see a reason why removing the sissy bar would remove any fender mounting options?

The whole thing:

Closer look at the strut:

And one more:

It looks like the sissy bar/strut combo is held on only with the signal mount bolts (the signal shaft "ears" are welded onto the strut). Since I haven't disassembled anything yet, I don't know if there are even forward mounting bosses underneath the "ears" on the chrome struts. Obviously, nothing's attached there.

Mostly what I'm asking is what I will need on hand to reassemble once I remove the sissy bar. Looks like I have some great fender struts after all, and that I'll need some different turn signal options - which should mount through the same holes that already exist, no?

P.S. icecaps, nice looking bike! Your rear fender is a bit longer than mine, and it looks like it was cut off with the stock fender struts in mind.

There's no way to tell from here but it looks like you might be able to get away with just removing the whole sissy bar set up and maybe just have to replace the signals.Which wouldn't be a bad thing IMO those old Huge Sportster signals are fugly. The good news is they did a pretty nice job on the fender it should look good once you get rid of the bitch bar and the giant signals.I don't know about Sportsters but my Dynas signals had three components a stalk, a bolt and the signal itself.I was able to really tuck them in allot by removing the stalk and bolting them directly to the fender strut with shorter bolts.

That's what I'm hopin' for. I like the look of bullet lights, but I don't think they're cheap. They'd look good with the current style of the bike - on the fronts too.

Thanks for the input.
