Default Fender Struts?

I'm curious as to whether anyone is running fender struts on their newer bikes. Prior to this I had rigid struts on my sportster 72 and was able to get the rear fender really low to the tire and not have to worry about rubbing. Well I decided I wanted to go back to a shock and threw the stock shocks back on, but now I'm stuck with the fender having to be much higher on the bike and it really just bugs the sh*t outta me. I'm a huge fan of the 70's era choppers and bobbers and through looking at a lot of those bikes I see they ran fender struts. I know most were rigid frames but has anyone made some an attached them to the swing arm so the fender would move with the swing arm allowing a low fender to the tire while running shock? My other thought was I'm planning on fabbing up my own sissy bar and connecting it to the swing arm then attaching the top of the fender to it. Ill attach some pics for reference. I just was kinda thinking this up and I'm all ears to any tips and constructive criticism. Thanks.

Look at dk's build. He has his sissy bar working as a strut. The fender is attached to the sing arm. While he is running struts he built it so he can go back to shocks while keeping fender close to the tire

I've welded a sheet of metal on top of the swing arm and bolted the rear fender to it. It works ok with shocks. From time to time the fender does move a little. Works better with rigid struts.

Here's a pic
