I was in the HD store the other day looking at Timer Covers of course they didn't have any that they said would fit but they could order them. I started looking at the ones on the floor that were marked 04 and up with the 2 horizontal screw holes.. but I don't really see why the wouldnt fit.. size and hole placement seem to be the same but maybe im wrong..
Has anyone else run into this.. will it work not work.. ?
That's what I thought too.. but if they are theirs not much of a difference.. I may take mine off and place it on top of the one on my brothers Nightster and see how much of a difference there is..
I've heard different things on eBay some say the will some say they wont. but I would rather know for sure before I fork out the cash.. you know
It might have to do with the fact that on the 2004+ Sportsters the timing cover is just a "dummy cover" for looks, and it doesn't have to provide any kind of actual sealing.
Not sure, but I would imagine the earlier Sportster timing covers have a different gasket/sealing edge.
Here is a little Harley blurb talking about the 2004+ Sportsters;
"A new timing system uses the flywheel to determine engine speed timing, reducing engine complexity and enhancing calibration and spark delivery. The traditional XL Evolution timing cover is retained for styling purposes."
