I just swapped out my bars for drag bars. I didn't need to swap cables though and I used the service manual and went step by step. I think the hardest part was getting the brass ferrels out of the throttle grips without loosing them. I had to chase one down, but luckily it didn't hide to hard on me. I think if you have half a clue and a manual you should be fine. Other than the ferrels, make sure to stick a piece of cardboard in the gap of the brake lever, it will pull the nub on the lever away from the brake switch and keep you from ripping it apart when reinstalling it.

i did the same, went from stock bars to drags, i wired the bars internally which took a lil longer but is def worth it, cuz they look sweet. he is right about the ferrulles, (the brass things on the end of the wires) they are a lil tricky. and def put that peice of cardboard in the lever so the lever is depressed a lil. i didnt and i almost broke the lil switch that is in there. good luck

I put 1200L bars on my '07 883 XL when I had it. Cables didn't need to be changed but I did order the 1200L brake line.

And ditto on inserting the cardboard piece for the brake lever.....I didn't do it and broke the switch.

pulling the wires through was my biggest pain...but outside of that pretty quick...didn't have to change cables or wires...so that definately made it easier

Well, if you take your time, remember to route your cables correctly, make sure everything fits right, and correctly adjust your cables, and bleed your brakes properly....for a new wrench, I'd say it's gonna take a little bit, but it can be done. Just be patient and take it one step at a time.

I've gone through about 5 sets of bars to date (coming up on 6 soon), so I can usually get it done nice and neat in about an hour or so....it's not that bad.
