IMO, it looks cooler, but from what I hear, it's hard as hell on your body. I personally want to try out a bike with a rigid frame, just to see for myself.

Many bikes with a rigid frame, such as choppers, are longer than a Sporty, and they "flex" a bit. A Sportster with struts is much shorter than they are, and the ride would be considerably stiffer.

i want to add: most builders of rigids find a high-profile tire to run before mounting their fender. some run car tires. this is why a 16 inch rear wheel/21 inch front wheel became hot. otherwise, that giganto rear tire would look dumb with a tiny front tire. and you get good highway gearing out of em... which is important (cause you sure as fck arent building a chopper for canyon carving).
king/queen seats or deep buckets give lower back support. apes are used so the rider can lean back. same with forward controls. the point is to not set upright because each pothole/bump forces the vertebrae to compress and that forces the disks OUT.
My son has a 1200c which he had done a lot of mods to. He let a little air out of the back tire and said that when he's cruising on the highway he finds it pretty much the same. Around town the ride is a little different on some of the less than perfect roads...bumps, etc. Also has to take the corners more carefully as the rear end has more of a tendency to slid out if it hits a bump in the turn. He'll be riding 900 miles down here to CA in a couple weeks. We'll see how he feels about them after hours in the saddle.
