I'm thinking about getting a set of the HD drag bars for my Nightster and getting them powder coated black. My question is how much of the bar ends should not be coated to allow for the controls to be put on with out any problems? And another question, if i wanted to drill them for internal wiring, does anyone know how big of a hole to drill and locations for them? I'm sure i could tell if i dissasembled and looked, but if I did this i'd want to do it before powder coating. Thanks in advance...
I have glueless grips so powdercoat would not pose much of an issue for me in terms of fitment. I would measure your grips/switch from the bar end and then take about a half inch or so off so that you could be sure it wouldn't show the chrome. Also when I did my bars I had them stay away from the Knurls as as well. Powder coater taped them off plus about 1/4 of an inch.
I wouldn't drill out my bars to do internal wiring so I don't have any advise for you on that one.
i wanna say its like 7 1/4 inches. I made the mistake of powder coating the whole bar. if you powder coat the thottle side the throttle will stick. at least mine did because of the thickness of the powdercoat.

Why not just buy a set of black bars and save yourself the hassle? I found my K&N drag bars on ebay, less than $50 already coated, or check out the Flanders website.

Exactly...or try Robert @ Elswick Cycles. He makes great quality bars...Alot of members on here have purchased bars from him.
Here's my thread I started for when i ended up selling them back in September.
If you go to his website, the bars' dimensions he has listed are mine, so I know they fit guaranteed and you won't have any issues with tank clearance.
