Hey guys, You all know your stuff and im sitting here wondering something so im going to let it out.. I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question. But from looking at a Street Bob and with out the apes and having handel bars from a sporty custom. Thats exactally what a bob looks like. A sportster custom. What makes it a "Dyna"? What does it mean for any bike to be a Dyna? What sets it apart from a sportster?

If you are trying to learn about HD's, there are no dumb questions. Here's a little info that might help.
The Sportster is lighter in frame, forks, engine, and is designed different. The big engine difference is the fact that the Sportster incoperates an engine and transmission that is more one unit, while the big twin power plant as found on the Street Bob has the engine and transmission as seperate units connected by a primary chain which is incased in a primary cover. Note the difference in length between the engine/transmission of the Sportster, and and that of the Street Bob. The engine in the Street Bob is 1450CC while the Sportster has two choices, an 883 and a 1200cc.
The Dynas have the final belt drive on the left side of the bike, and the Sportster has the final drive on the right. The Street Bob has a six speed transmission while the Sportster has a 5 speed.
The front forks on the Sportster are 39mm. The front forks on the Street Box are 49mm, and the frame of the Sportster is narrower and shorter.
A Sportster will usually out handle any of the big twins, and a 1200 will outrun one due to the difference in power to weight ratios.
There are other differences that will come to you as you learn more. Hopefully this will get you started.
Seriously, Street Bob's are nice rides. Bigger motor, nice stance. Can't get the denim paint for the Sporty either. But if you like the performance characteristics of a Sporty as much as the look of the Street Bob, consider the "Sport-Bob" conversion package.....
Take an 06 1200C in Vivid Black, add solo seat, DWG bars, custom pipes, and additional chrome to taste. Bake at 350 for one hour. Serve hot.
In 05 the Sporty has same 1" rear axle and swing arm dimensions. Dyna frame is longer, fork tubes are larger in Diameter and the obvious engine transmission difference. The Dyna is simply a Beefy Sporty, more parts interchange than most Dyna owners wish to admit. 04 and older Dynas have smaller rear tires and the 3/4" axle that the Sporty had until 05. Oh and the price of the Dyna is almost double the Sporty. Most Dyna Riders would be happy as hell ona 1200 but their egos can't take the abuse Sporty riders take from RUBs and YUBs! Oh yea the Dyna is all of 2" longer! don't forget that big! difference!
