My first Harley was a 2000 1200-C solid mount loved it. One big problem I couldn't ride it in the freeways, anything over 65 mph my hands would go numb. In 07 I got a 06 1200-C rubber mount now I can run the highways all day, 70- 80 mph no problem. Love this bike too. Only thing I don't like on the rubbers, is the extra weight, but it's worth it to me. I should say that when you drive around 60 mph and under there isn't much deference. For me the rubber is the only way to go... you need to decide whats best for you.
Good luck.

comparing the 89 hugger to the 08 nightster i would recommend a rubbermount if you plan on doing lots of long trips. harley made it a rubbermount for a reason...

Personally, I love my 08 nightster and bought it because of the newer EFI and rubber mounts. Now, this is my first bike, so I can't compare, but I just felt that the ride would be alot smoother at highway speeds than a solid mount engine. I almost bought an 02 for 4000, but ended up seeing this beauty and dropped 9000 on it. Oh well....... I love it and it haulz ***.

I've ridden my friend's '96, I didn't find a LOT of difference, except at idle, but there was some. For long trips, I prefer my rubbermount.

And when you're on the highway, that extra 50 pounds (or whatever it is), isn't a bad thing.

My step dad has an 02 and I have to say the that I like the looks, feel and ride so much better on the 04 and up bikes. The 02 is fun to ride for a few as it has a very old school feel over my 07, but when I get back on my 07 it's so nice.

Been riding since 1966 on all kinds of Harley motorcycles, both solid and rubber mount. Sportsters have always been my favorite bike and I can honestly say that I will never ever get or ride another Sportster that is not rubber mounted again.
