Tell this guy to go learn to ride his bike and come back. If he caught you at 95mph you were just shy of hitting a quarter mile based on the fact a stock 1200 Sporty will only hit 103mpg in a quarter mile on a good day. In contrast, the CBR600RR will clear 120mph in that same distance and get there 2.5 seconds quicker than the Sporty. Agreed, the Sporty will launch harder than the 600's but that will only last 100 feet or so and I own a 600cc Yamaha sportbike. Beyond that first 100 feet or so, the Sporty is but a fond memory. As for the Ninja 250R, yeah right, in your dreams. The 1200 Sporty will leave it for dead and even at the top end side of things.......

Holy crap that's some damn good gas mileage. I only get 50mpg on the highway and I thought that was pretty damn good.

That's what I meant, I haven't looked yet but I know there are kits that make more HP than the stock 1200.

I think this whole thing is sort of silly. I love the Sportster for what it is - quick and tight. Light it isn't. Fast, well, can be. Plenty fast enough, anyway. Mine is totally tricked out, both engine and suspension. It dynos at just under 100hp at the rear wheel, so it is quick enough, but not quicker than my BMWs. But I didn't buy it to be quicker than my BMWs. I bought it for the pure enjoyment it gives me for being what it is: a comfortable small cruiser that is solidly built.

Sporty with the complete stage 1 may even hang with stock 750's. Might be a bit of a stretch, but its a reasonable goal.
I know that I have not yet been taken off the line, but it's bound to happen sometime.

New question, HOW can a rocket launch at his torque peak and not flip or fry the clutch.

Us cruisers can. SPORTY'S RULE!!
I'm with Crapshooter on this. A good rider on a 600 will pass a stock Nightster way before 95mph. Infact, when you've reached 95mph on your Nightster a good rider on a 600 will be at least 100 yards infront of you going 125+mph. And that's not just a guess. You can pretty easily calculate it from known 1/4 mile times and trap speeds. That's how big the difference is. Some numbers:

Nightster -07
Test in Motorrad 23/2007
Gewicht vollgetankt 257 kg
0 - 70 km/h - s
0 - 100 km/h 5,3 s
0 - 120 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 10,1 s
0 - 150 km/h - s
0 - 160 km/h - s
0 - 180 km/h - s
0 - 200 km/h - s

CBR600RR -07
Test in Motorrad 06/2007
Gewicht vollgetankt 186 kg
0 - 70 km/h - s
0 - 100 km/h 3,2 s
0 - 120 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 5,2 s
0 - 150 km/h - s
0 - 160 km/h - s
0 - 180 km/h - s
0 - 200 km/h 9,9 s

I had a ninja 600R, and currently have a sporty 1200. Totally different animals. The ninja would be behind the sporty from a dead stop for 70 feet, then would FLY by the sporty. from a rolling start, it would not even be close.

This thread is getting WAY too much attention. If anyone on HDForums got a harley to do drag races then you are on the wrong bike. Who cares who is faster, just enjoy the ride.
