Im not one to drag race or care about speed but my friend will not stop talking **** about my bike. He just got a new dyna superglide 96 inch and he brags like a little girl about it. Just for forum talk... How would a 89 1200 sportster that weighs 435 pounds hold up to a dyna superglide 96 inch from 0-60 MPR? His bike has only pipes and mine a stage 1, pipes,A/C rejet................any idea of the HP of a 96inch? my bike has about 68 to 73 I would guess. Thanks guys
more than likely you will get him off the line... maybe more. no sh*t i can run all over my buds 95" (cammed, 2into1) road king. dont get me wrong, he catches up -- but still
Well, its a funny thing this came up! i was on my way home today and this guy with a Dyna wide glide came up to me at a stop light and start talking chit. I told him when that light turned green i would see him later. I left that guy sitting there. when we stopped at the next light all he could say is Damn that Sporty will run. Then he stated Man i have a new respect for sportsters.
I think it would be pretty close. Race him and see then either he will stop bragging so much or you will never hear the end of it.
Here's a dyno sheet posted on www.nightrider.com for an 07 Dyna with SE pipes.
Your Sporty stock weight at 489 pounds weighs about 174 pounds less than a new Superglide. If you got your stock bike weight down to 435 that's even better.
The newer Sportys according to HD put out about 15% more hp than previous ones so I imagine you are between 60-65 hp on your bike.

I think if your sporty is tuned to its best. A good running bike. You Might take him in the 1/4 mile. It be a good race. Would like to see a run between carbed 883 ,1200, Dyna. Would Then like to see 60ft 1/8 and1/4 mile times. Then between fule injected 09 models 883, 1200 and Dyna. I would not be surprised the FI 883 out the hole on them all the above. Im talking stock bikes.
let us know how that works out, i have had some serious fun bangin on my buddies with there softails and touring bikes (back when my bike was capable of jammin ) but never raced a dyna. i think its gonna come down to the ridder
Though I do not own a Harley yet, hopefully very soon, and am quite envious of you all who do, gotta wonder why speed is so important for you all. Harleys offer so much more than speed, if speed is that important buy a rice burner, then you can beat just about anything in a 1/4 mile. But my guess would be that 0-60 the sportster will rule, beyond that the dyna will start to rapidly run down the sportster. Yesterday, we had our first nice day in I don't know how long, and I saw a dude on a street bob literally flying on that thing, way too fast for me on a cruiser. Keep in mind the old saying which for the most pasrt is true " THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT", the only reason why a sportster will out beat a larger twin is due to it's lighter weight, it concours inertia faster and gets down to business, but once momentum gets started on the larger twin, it will run down the sportster. But why the heck would you want to say you have a faster bike, Harleys are slow bikes in general, an 20 year old kid on a rice burner will blow the doors off both the sportster and the dyna, provided the kid knows how to ride a sport bike. Have fun and enjoy the ride, that's what harleys were made for.

I agree with you, but it comes back to the old "I have a Big Twin and you ride a chicks bike" argument.
Regardless of the outcome of such a race, it would be close and your friend will walk away scratching his head and then ask for a longer run.
