I wouldn't think so. I have an 883 and the response to the throttle is instant.

Thats not normal and it might be a injector problem. if i remember correctly 05 are fuel injected. if not could be junk in the carb.

It could be that you're just not giving it enough gas/bringing the RPM's up enough upon take off. However, you can also check the plugs, clean/replace the AC filter, etc.

I agree with WVHogRider. You need to give us more information to go on. You may very well just need to give it more gas when you take off. How much riding experience do you have on motorcycles in general? Are you letting out the clutch as the RPMs are going up or as the RPMs are coming down? Are you letting the clutch slip a little on take off or are you just dropping it all at once?

you will chug if not enough gas is dispenced, also your carb may need a lil fine tuning and you might want to check the primary chain tension, if a lil too loose it can cuase some surging and chugging at very low speed such as a take off ?

check it out and let us know what you found.

Hey all, new to the forum and to Harley's, grew up on little 250 500 dirtbikes and stuff but never ridden anything street legal until last week when i purchased an 05 1200C from a friend of mine, I have this exact same problem exactly the same, I have noticed that if i take off from a dead stop and do not wind her out much she chugs really badly, however if i wind her out at least half throttle or more she does just fine, I checked the plugs when i got her home and they were not fowled or anything of the sort the AC has a clean stage 1 filter in it so I see no problems there, just adding to the whole starting out from a stop ordeal, it seems like I said i have to wind it out quite a bit for it not to chug, my father seems to think the low jet on the carb may be screwed up or the fuel mixture is rich, however hes no mechanic (although likes to think he is) hes good with car carbs not bike carbs. I dont know if that helps but I keep winding it out a lot when startin out to keep it from chugging, but i do not know if this is normal.

Well, It's an '05, but we don't know how many miles you put on it, nor how many miles your friend put on it, nor how long it sat before you purchased it.....You father could be right in that the carb could be gunked up, and just need a good cleaning. You might want to just try running some Seafoam through it to possibly clean the carb out first.
