Default forward controls

my nuts r in a pinch n maybe u guys can help me out. i just bought on 09 nightster bout 2 weeks ago and i nearly creamed myself after riding it, but there was one issue. after about 2 minutes of riding, i got a sharp *** pain on my left hip...basically it felt like a charlie horse in my hip. and pretty much i had that feeling like my hip was dislocated all damn day. i'm about 5' 10 and 160 lbs. should i get forward controls to stretch my legs out, or will my body get used to the mids. i sat on a 1200c with forward controls and it felt pretty good.....any info???

I had the exact same thing happened to me.

I had purchased forward controls with my bike but they werent in stock so I took delivery of the bike and rode for a while before I made it back to get the controls put on.

Long story short...I started to get used to the mids and even thought about leaving them on but since I had paid for the forwards (and labor) I decided to go ahead and install them. I'm so glad I made that choice because I havent felt that pain you talk of since.

I am also 5' 10" and I have an 883L which has the same overall demensions as the 1200N.

did you feel that pain all the time when you rode or did you get used to it and not feel it anymore prior to you getting the forwards

When I first got the bike I felt it all the time. By the time I got the forwards put on, I would only feel it on longer rides. So it was alleviating over time but I can't say that it went away fully.

Thinking logically about it, the pain is prolly a combination of several things...

1. your body is not used to riding a motorcycle and muscles used to shift etc are getting a workout they havent gotten before.

2. If you are new to road bikes (like me) you are tense on the road and it makes those pains worse.

3. The stock seats blow. I have been debating on exactly which seat to get but I know I'll be replacing that stock rock.

hmmmm....well i did just get rid of my GSXR about a few weeks ago and obviously the riding position is different....plus my bro-in-law had the same issue with his hip, but he got used to it after a little bit and he's ok now.

This is the prime reason for test riding BEFORE you buy...

I bought a 09 Dyna with mid controls on it. I immediately felt lower back pain if I rode more than 15-20 minutes. I decided to put highway pegs on her and it helped a bunch but I didnt feel in control of the bike being too far from the rear brake and gear shifter. Long story short, I bought some forwards and immediately felt so much more comfortable, the pressure is off my lower back now and I can actually shift up and down without moving my foot off the peg, something I couldnt do with the mids. Mids are for youngsters or lucky folks that dont have comprimised backs. I'm heading out tomorrow for a long ride 150 miler so I'll chime back in if you like with the verdict. BTW, Im 5-11 and 250
