i have the slipons of which you speak and they have a nice tone and decent rumble to them. i've never heard the the side shots, so not sure how they compare. but for the money on the slipons, they sound about the best 200 bucks can get you.
I also have the slip ons. Ran them with just the standard baffles and it's a great sound. Loud as well. I recently put in the quiet baffles. It's still fairly loud, but it has a more lower type of a rumble now. I'm almost tempted to go back to the standard baffles.
vance and hines straight shot slipons....with out the quiet baffle? are they as loud as the side shots?
No. To my ears, they aren't as loud as the side shots. They're a deeper rumble and worth every penny. I put the QB's in a few days after getting them and enjoy the sound more.
Now to qualify my answer, I have to point out that I think the side shots are louder because they're shorter and as the rider (and even worse...passenger), you hear them much more than you do the slip ons (which are a little longer).
I have the straight shots and if you take out the baffels you will at some point want to put them back in because they are too loud that way. They are pretty loud with the baffles in and will set off alarms quite easily so be careful. In an area that enforces noise laws it may bite you in the butt. The LEO's have looked at me when I take it easy and they are pretty lax around here compared to other areas.Harley quit making loud pipes several years ago because of the new federal push for quiet pipes.
