Default Please Help!!! Sportster Issue

So I have this little problem that the dealership can't seem to replicate, therefore no fix. When I ride solo, the bike is fine. But whenever my girlfriend and I ride together, the rear of the bike eminates constant rotating noise that sounds slightly metallic. I thought maybe the tire was rubbing so I adjusted the shocks to the 4th setting, still there. I have no abnormal tire wear, the noise stops when the bike stops, the brake noise is normal, and the dealer says that the belt is tight, brakes normal, and wheels check out. At first I thought it was a warped rotor, then the dealership thought it might be a wheel bearing. I guess I will have to ride it over there with her on it. But does anyone else know of or heard of something similiar??

Honestly, that sounds very feasible to me, but they said the belt was fine. But then again, that doesn't mean much.

Find someone with a manual or get one and find out how to check belt tension. Some models are to be adjusted with rider and if usually ridden 2 up the passenger. Others are on the side stand with no weight.

Is because the belt is too tight or loose? Or is it cause the belt is out of alignment? Thanks for the help in advance and to the previous posters.

You could try loosening the belt a bit to see if the noise goes away. Count the turns, and you can always put it back to where it was. Maybe it tracks to one side with the extra weight and rubs against the side of the pully. Wear is difficult to see in the short term.

My first Sporty liked to rub one side, but I didn't want to change the alignment because the tire was wearing perfectly. So I would put some paraffin or belt dressing on it occasionally when the noise got loud.

Good luck.

look under the fender for rub marks, they may be small. also, check the belt guard. It could be belt tension but then if it was it seems like it would do it all the time.

What can I say? This dealer seems more inclined to just pass it off to nothing than actually addressing the situation.
