Default SE II slip ons

Hi all,

Im getting ready to do the slip ons and the air cleaner. SE air cleaner/SEII slip ons. I ve been reading alot of the posts about jetting and have come to the conclusion that most of you swap the 42 for a 45 slow jet and leave the 180 main in. The variations on the mixture screw go fro 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 (find the sweet spot). I ve been working on bikes my entire life, but they have all been 2 strokes. I dont think the air cleaner and the rejet will be any trouble. I was curious as to the slip on installation. Do you have to loosen the manifold nuts to move the headers so that little cap on the slip ons will go on the bar? Or will the slip ons slip right on. Two bolts and the little cap that goes on the stability bar right? I dont want to sound ignorant but a little bit of knowledge from the people in the know is always good. Thank you in advance for any replies.

Mark

45 and 3.5 turns is a good place to start. Decide later if you think the main needs a bump, needle needs a shim, or a jet kit is in order. But 95% sure you'll be close to dead on with 45, 3.5.

Don't need to loosen manifold bolts. There is some movement/play built into them as is to compensate for engine movement during normal driving. That's all you need. Don't even need to remove heat shields. I know it says to, did it on mine but left them on for my wife's. To get wiggle room you are looking for, I loosened the header frame mount bolts (one per header pipe) - that gave me enough wiggle to get the flange on the muffler free from the crossover tube. After that it was gentle, steady wiggling with constant pulling backward on the muffler until it came off.
