So I would like to change my bars, but need some help. I currently have the stock bars on the bike, but with a 5.5" pullback riser. This setup doesn't quite give me the ride position I would like. I am looking for a little more lift (not quite mini apes) and a little more pull back. Someone has suggested Dyna low bars, but when I called the dealer, they needed to know the model I was referencing. So....what are these bars the others are talking about? And would these fit the need I am describing?
Buying new bars is tricky, because despite how many measurements you take, you'll never quite know what's right until you ride with 'em.
For pull back bars on a Sporty. Most folks go one of two routes:
1. Bars from an "L" model Sportster. The "Low" Sportsters (XL1200L or XL883L) have pull back bars.
2. Bars from a Low Rider (FXDL) or Super Glide Custom (FXDC), both are Dynas. These will be a touch wider than the Sporster XL1200L/XL883L bars.
Go to the dealer, sit on an FXDL (or FXDC), then sit on an XL1200L (or XL883L) and see what you like. Have the parts guy come over to help you get a sense of what it would take to get that bar position on your Sporty.
Good luck.
Either set-up will require some lengthening of your brake line (clutch cable and throttle/idle cables should be fine), though you may have already done this with your riser.
thanks for the input. I spoke with them on the phone again, he has suggested wide glide bars would be a good match. I will go check them out and see.
Those are mini apes and what I have. Pretty comfortable (had em 3yrs.) but not tall enough. They will look very bad on that tall pullback riser in my opinion. Realistlicly if you mount them on 1-2" risers through they're mini apes the overall hgt. will only be about 4" taller than what you have now if that.
i will go back to my old 1" stock riser. I wouldn't dare put those bars on that riser LOL. I feel like the 12" apes are a bit to tall, which is why I am looking at the wide glide bars.
