That is also the method of warning oncoming bikers of an object/hazardous condition in the roadway ahead...how do I know if they are being friendly or warning me of a road hazard?...silly assed way to wave IMPO...

I never noticed my waving habits 'til my wife pointed them out to me. She says I give all HD riders the salute, metrics get an index finger wave but my hand doesn't leave the grip. The scooter guys around here act like they're scared to let go of the grip to wave, so I leave them alone... or stare and laugh.

My wife waved like a Homecoming Queen on a parade float when we first started riding! She's mellowed out a little with the waving. She waves to all the HD brothers and sisters, others get a nod.

I've never seen anyone in oncoming traffic point to a road hazzard. Usually it's the bike ahead of you that warns you of potential obstacles.

I read an article about this years back, I think in the original Rider Magizine before it became MCN. The guy broke it down into 7 levels, from a slight nod or 1 finger raised off the grip to Standing on the pegs and waving both hands over your head. He had a profile included for a rider from each level. It was funny as hell and dead on....

I usually wait until being waved at, then wave back if possible. Make or model of bike doesn't matter. Ride what you like, wave when you want. Watch the road and let it and traffic determine if it is appropriate.

I give a wave or nod. I don't care what you ride, I'm not a brand snob. Ride what you like.

Definitely not true. I was heading back from class yesterday and I was passed by this gorgeous blonde on a nightster. She had the leather jacket open from the heat, long blonde hair. I was riding and she came up and shared my lane. I moved over for her, but I think she got the hint that I'm inexperienced. She gave me a thumbs up and a girl wave and sped off. I was pretty freaking pumped. Had the bike for a week and I've gotten a lot of attention, not even from many Harleys.

I usually hold my arm at a 90* and do a two finger salute. If I can't manage that (because of traffic or turning or something) I give a downward knod. I wave to all bikes, little kids, and truck drivers. My dad has been a trucker since I was born and I've always done it because he does.

+1 There are chicks on this site who ride that I would not kick out of bed for eating crackers.

Also who cares how you wave? Do you get more points if you move closer and you guys high five as you pass? Now that would be cool.
