Default Advice Needed Please

Hi All,

I recently purchased my first Harley in the shape of an 883C 2005 Model.
The probelm I have which i beleive alot of people have had is the Air filter over the users have blown out oil onto the casing. What I would like to know is:

A: Can I clean off the baked on oil?? I hav tried many of products without any luck but just wondered is anyone has had sucess.?

B: Can somone please identify the exact part on the side the bike so I cuold possibly order replacement casings. I have looked around but I am not a 100% sure what the part number I required, at first I thoiugh I was after a complete kit but then realised I think I can order just that panel?

Pictures Here:

the pic's look like your talking about your cam cover is this correct
from looking at the stains i'd say the oil is dripping down from up top somewhere

Thanks for your quick response, the problem cover is the right hand break side of the bike, I have added another photo of the bike in full , the problem has been oil blowing out of the carb from time to time as you can see the S&S air filter in the full size picture.

Sounds like you have too much oil in the bag, ideal spot is in between the low and full. As far as getting the oil off your casings, try rubbing alcohol or gasoline.

try brake cleaner, but do not leave it on too long, just long enough to dissolve the oil

Ok I had to go back and look at the pics, that appears to be an aluminum casing, use some mothers polish and alot of elbow grease, another good polish for stubborn stains is Quater. you can get these at any parts store. be prepaired to polish the whole case when you do because you will have a real shiny spot where you polish
