It seems pretty hit or miss. I've read about people getting them and they have to bend them because they are off at the connections by 1/2" or so. There is also a few people on here that have been through 3 sets because the mounts break. I've also read about people that love them. Seems to happen far less though. They are cheap though so there ya go.
Whats up with Hooker pipes? Are they always on clearance? Or are they going out of business? Or do they suck so bad that they have to mark them down to unload them. Anyone have any idea?
Maybe it's just me but, when I read product reviews (here and elsewhere) and see 50% positive ratings and 50% negative ratings, I stay away. I'm not spending hard earned money on a crap shoot. There are too many other products out there that get a 85-90% thumbs up rating.
Back on topic, I have the slash cut hooker troublemakers and I had the same rattling problem. Turns out that the clamp was loose, the flange that the actual pipe clamped to was loose and part of the heatshield broke off with it! I tack welded it best we could but they leak like a mother! One of the best looking pipes IMO but aren't constructed worth a damn. Im gonna check out the Freedom Performance Independence exhaust next.
Had em. They effin suck. Within two months the tabs that hold the worm gear clamps on the rear pipe heat shield broke. Rattled like hell. Called Hooker(pipes were two months old with about 500 miles on em. Winter project.). Hooker offered to sell me new heat shields. Would not work with me on a new pipe or heat shield unless I wanted to purchase a new heat shield for $170 dollars. Welded them up, held for another 700 miles and the welds broke. Took them off and put V&H shortshots on. The problem I see with the hookers is that the heat shields are integrated supporting members of the exhaust system and aren't up to the task. Oh yeah, and they leaked like bitches were the heat shield and pipe come together no matter what the hell I did to try to fix the problem. They were a $400 dollar mistake I will not repeat. Poor product, terrible customer service. But they did look and sound good if you have a garage queen.
I was trying to avoid taking them off to take a god look at them but it seems I don't have a choice, replaced both clamps but the front pipe is still rattling. Again I was begining to think there was something wrong with the bike itself but after reading your guy's posts I'm very relieved. Sure $200 down the gutter but at least that should be the end of it, I hope.
