there is a known problem with 07 sportsters with water intrusion. water runs down the frame into and through the fuse block. The relay goes bad, from corrosion, and continues to draw power when the bike is shut off. listen to the bike with everything turned off. you will hear a very faint buzzing type sound that cycles off and on every 20 seconds or so. The relay needs to be replaced. I had this happen just like you describe a few times and was able to get my dealer to give me a new wiring harness. Do a search on this topic. There are some technical terms used to describe this but i dont remember. you should find a few topics or search under my id.
although this mostly says its common among 07 models mines an 08 but it would still make sense because they say they fixed it but they always pressure wash it before they give it back. none the less here is a good posting and explanation of the problem http://www.hdtalking.com/sportster_m...html#post76215
thanks guys for all the help...i finally got to the bike..found corrosion around fuses and relays..i cleaned them all up and put them all back in it worked good but i needed a new system relay..went to my local harley dealer and picked one up for $12.00...glad it was not anything serious!
All that plus the system relay only lasts about 4,000 miles,on mine anyway
Yeah my "Sytem" relay took a dump after 8k on my 07. This is the first I've heard of a warranty harness replacement, did someone say this will be a recall by HD?
