I bought a 07 nightster about a month ago. All of a sudden it kills the battery just sitting in the garage...I park the bike and by the next day the battery is totally dead. I turn all the stuff off and take the key out to. I even bought a new battery and it killed the new one. Anyone else have this problem or heard of it? Any help please!!!!!!
You can get dielectric grease an at auto parts store. A couple of people have posted here in the past that there's a new electrical harness out for the 07's that is being replaced under warranty.
I got on this forum to see if any one else was having this problem. i have an 08' nightster thats been doing the exact same thing, its still under warranty so i dropped it off at the harley shop a month ago, first they called me and said it was done, they found some pinched wires by the ignition. the next day it was dead. than they said it was the voltage regulator, next day dead again. they called me friday and said they got it working. i picked it saturday and rode it. when i went to start it sunday the same thing.im obviously less than happy and will be dropping it off again today. as soon as i find out what the real fix is i will let you know. but the fact that the harley dealership cant even figure it sounds like its not an easy fix
Im pretty convinced that its a short do to the fact that the positive terminal on the battery sparks even when everything is turned off. although im no electrical wiz iv built a couple bikes and cant understand why they keep ignoring this, a simple voltage test after letting the bike sit overnight should have told them that there was still something wrong. not to happy with the local dealer right now.
