Default First Scratch!

Oh let me tell you after i sat and cleaned over my whole bike this morning. (thank you to the how to wash your bike thread). Finally done, well now i need to ride it, and treat myself to the work. Now that im ready im sitting on her while she's warming up and the wind as blown random dust over the gas tank in front of me. So i start wipping across the tank and then i hear it. Screech! I look down and my once black tank. has three bright white strips down it. Omg, it ruined the entire day. I went everywhere looking for black wax, something. I finally got some black touch up paint from walmart. However its better but not perfect. Covered it up but you can tell. If anyone knows where i can find black wax at, or have any good idea on how to dull the new paint (from the touch up bottle) to match the origional tank please let me know.

Sorry i forgot to ask one things How much would you think it would cost to get it re-painted? Maybe i should get a guy to do a pinstrip job over it to help make it look like its not there?

If the scratches were white, then all you had to do was a light wet sanding using 1500 grit sandpaper and buff out the scratches. Apply a quality wax and the scratches are gone forever. I work in a autobody shop and buff out scratches like the one you describe all the time. Now that you put paint on it you can still wetsand, buff & polish with the same result. I suggest going to an autobody shop and have them buff the tank. Should only be a minimal fee.
