I used to have an old Chevy that was really tempermental in hot humid air. It never had any power if the temp was above 80 and humid. My 02 883 doesnt seem that sensative. Its more sensative since the stage 1 and dynojet kit but will still hit well over 100mph.

ORIGINAL: burnie

Never had an 883, but all my 1200s are just getting warmed up at 80. Not that I like to ride fast, but do like to see how much muscle the bike has every now and then. I have taken a 1200, 115 mph+. The bike has more, I just dont. I also have always had wind sheilds on all my sporties.

Im about your size as well. Little lighter though. Im 6'4" 210lbs.
burnie,

All of what you said sounds like me...lol!
Sometimes I like to feel the muscle too... and mine is just stock(no stage I here)

Oh.... I'm 5'4" and 138lbs.... so it's kinda easy to go fast.

MG

You should be getting about 90 in a quarter mile. You have jetting, tuning or restricted air flow problems. I have had my 05 1200C 110mph with some left. Good luck hope you get it sorted out. My Triumph comes out of 4th gear at 110 with 2 more gears. I've seen 125 indicated with a lot left.

Somethings wrong, I had my 06 883 that fast, in 4th gear! It's now a 1200, and I can bump 95 in 4th.... rev limit set to 7000 with a Thunder Heart ignition module, 48 low jet, 190 high jet, and Arlen Ness StageII air filter w/Cycle Shack drag pipes..........

Dude, it's time to get a service manual. You got a problem for sure, but unless you have deep pockets, it is not anything you want to pay for to get fixed. Like others have said, 85 is a good top speed for 4'th gear. Seems like about 3/4 throttle for me in 5'th, and I'm very close to 200 lbs. I just got my box stock 883 broke in, so I will do some speed tests this weekend if I can find a place where I can get away with it. (Gonna be hard to do on a holiday weekend but I'm up for it ). I'll post results when I get back. Oh, did I mention, I LOVE MY SPORTY!

I've got an 05 883C, taxes paid, detachable windshield and saddlebags. I went out to D.C. this morning for Rolling Thunder and I was traveling at 80mph most of the way and a few times had it up to 95mph with a little left in it. I am also 235 lbs.
Something is definately not right if you can barely get it up to 83 mph.

My first bike was a Virago 250 (Route 66). It maxed out about 85-90. Could go faster with a tail wind or drafting a semi while going down hill. Regardless, if my piddly 250 could hit 90, no way I believe an 883 does not have more giddy-up than that. Must be a problem somewhere.

Wow a Virago 250 can hit those speeds? I had no idea. That's actually pretty good for such a small bike.
