After a couple of days of flogging the 883, here's what I came up with. keep in mind that the only level ground around here is in the winter when the lakes freeze over. I hit 105 with it, admittedly on a slight downslope but the bike held it's speed after I hit the bridge at the bottom and headed back up out of the valley. It felt like the wind was gonna rip me off the bike so I backed off after that.
Top speed, still unknown.
I went up some good sized hills without downshifting, just full throttle. The bike just kept accelerating, I topped a couple big ones at over 85.
Torque, very good for my kind of riding.
I hate to say something this stupid, but I can hardly wait for winter, so I can do the 1200 conversion.
I've got an '02 883R and I'm a big (read fat) bloke and she'll pull easily over 85. I've never been over ninety because our roads are crowded but there was more there even at ninety.
The bike has a windshield fitted and at the time was dragging saddlebags too.
There's a short stretch of dual carriageway (I think you'll call that four lane) near where I live and the 883 regularly gets to 85 on there.

Well the bike only has around 55hp at 6000rpm and it has to carry around 804 lbs at least. That's about 14.6 lbs per hp and im not even factoring in the wind resistance which grows exponencially according to speed. All im saying is that the Sportster ain't no sportscar.
I hit 90+ while eating a new GTO up since he had to pull up and rev his engine like a mad man5'10" 175-80lbs.
