I've got a Deluxe and an 883 and to be honest...I ride the 883 to work and around town more. The Deluxe is much nicer for the longer weekend/overnighter rides, but in terms of pure enjoyment and fun...the Sportster wins.

The info I could find regarding the 1994 883 sportster:
42 horsepower peak at 5200
43.26 ftlb torque at 4400
Granted, those number do not appear to be from Harley themselves (that I know of) but, if those numbers are correct, it indeed would explain why he could not pull on me as we thought he might.
Gotta love technology. You just have to spin the motor a little longer....

I understand yer in love but those 94 #s are BS. the power progression is small. my 1993 883 before conversion dynoed 45.5HP an 47 tourque. a 2004 1200 up sportster is identical to a 99 down buell lightening so its not a big deal. IF you were riding a XR1200 I could believe your raves but not a 883 or even a regular 1200. My 883 was 68HP, 71 tourque after the conversion which is still just under a stock 1993 1200 #s. Congratulations on your new ride though

883's are fun...So were Briggs and Stratton powered mini-bikes...The plain truth of it is that many owners of each sooner or later find themselves wanting "more" and either trade or upgrade.
OK. Thats all fine until those guys that go and get more forget that they once rode an 883. Thats when they get on here and spout off about gutlessness. Girls bikes. Not enough of this, not enough of that. Seriously, why the F@$K do BT owners try to talk people out of sportsters?Why do you people give a S@$T? Let people be proud of what they ride. They dont need you telling them how insufficent their bike is. Go recruit on a metric forum.
Had my 883c for 18months now, I cant see that it dosent have enough power, i can smoke any cager at the lights, break any speed limit, and have a lot of fun doing it.
In saying that, more power is always nice and there is no such thing as enough power.
I am with the rest of you. I just got an 2007 883L, and put 160 miles on it within less than a month. That should tell you something. My bike is the ****. It handles well, and the speed is fast enough to keep up with the Dynas on straight-aways. I am looking for a set of slip-ons for my exhaust that will make it rumble more. That is my only disappointment about the bike. The sound. Other than that, the bike is amazing.
Ive been riding my 2005 883 for about 3 weeks and now and love it has plenty of power for me and i converted from a ninja to the harley but if i wanted to rip i woulda stayed on the crotch rocket.
Guy i ride with has a 92 screamin eagle sportster 1200 and i have no trouble riding with him or keeping up.
The 883 is a very capable bike. Can't understand why there are some that slam it. I think those are the ones who are more concerned with a status symbol than riding.
