When engine heats up bike backfires through carburetor when giving throttle yet can idle fine.
Problem only occurs when throttled and while the bike is warmed up. The plugs are fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks

need more info is it all stock. riden dailey. long or short rides lugged or ***** out was it laid up for awhile air filter clean. when you start it up do you idle it long on the enricher (choke) They all spit a little the carbed models my o6 1200C does it from time to time she likes to be run like I stole it. likes 93 octane or 91 likes a clean air filter. If she sits and idles a lot she spits when I throttle up when I run her in the higher rpm range for a while all is good. Could be other things but need more info
Yes, it is stock w/new pipes that have been on for 6 months now. No, not ridden daily, but every weekend (weather permitting), some long rides, some short. Air filter is clean, the backfiring has even occurred w/o the air filter on. It back fired so bad one time, it knocked the carb right off the bike. I always run 93 octane. This issue is only happening when the bike is hot.
The intake was never changed. I still run the stock air cleaner. The exhaust was changed about 6 months ago. This problem has been happening for the past 3 weeks. I appreciate all the help.
Any kind of air leak on the intake manifold side will also produce a lean condition. I've had a torn carb to manifold gasket cause the same problem. Heat causes expansion which can cause air leaks.
If it only pops when warm, then it is possibly something heat related. The '05 has the Crank Position Sensor that, when it fails, is notorious for "bad" behavior when warm and just off idle throttle opening. Idling it is just fine. Cold it runs fine.
That may not be the source of your problem, but it is something to be aware of.

+1 - Check for any logged diagnostic codes. There is a Sticky at the top of this section "Helpful DIY's" that tells you how to read the codes.
