Default Fork oil question...

So I am work today and heading to 7-11 to get a drink and I notice that one of the fork gaiters is depressed on each fork (thats the only way I can explain it). I never noticed this before. It is only when I am on it, I weigh 180. Like I said I never noticed it before so I am wondering if I might be low on fork oil. If anyone has a N and weighs about as much as me, could you go out and sit in your bike and let me know if your front end does the same? Any suggestions? Maby I'm just paranoid today.

Mine does the same thing. If I sit on the bike after it has been sitting for over a day, it won't do it, unless I press the front brake as I'm rolling it, and then it compresses. But when I've been riding it for an hour or so and the bike is warm, the moment I go to sit on it, they compress. I've seen all nightsters do that, especially while people are riding them. I'm thinking of switching to heavier fork oil or progressive springs soon and that should help a little.

Well, I meant just one of the accordion sections on both forks. Does that make any sense? Cause I doesn't make sense to me but I dont know how else to put it without digging out the camera and stuff!!

Cool man, That makes me feel a bit better. I'll probably switch to a heavier front oil when I upgrade the rear shocks.

Thanks again!

Yeah mine does it. I'm 170. But it didn't start doing it until like the last few hundred miles, and I've noticed that my forks have been bottoming out a lot more lately. They are a lot noisier all together. Like they actually rattle when I'm accelerating. I am almost positive that means I need new oil or something something. I need to look into that pretty soon. It's probably not good, and I probably need to start my own thread.

I would check the fork oil, or better yet, just replace it. Then if you want to put on a lowering kit after awhile, its up to you....

nightster suspension is toast in about 15k miles. heavier fork oil is a waste of time you'll notice no improvement at all.

If you upgrade the rear shocks and or springs you may want to go with the progressive srings in front as well. When you make the rear stronger the problem in front will be worse. It's all about the balance of weight between front and back.
