Default Checking Primary Lube Level

You have to remove the clutch inspection cover. Those Torx 27 screws can be a bugger to remove if you've never had them out before. If they get difficult or start to strip, take the bike to an indy shop and pay to have them remove the screws and re-install them only hand tight. It will save you tons of aggravation, not to mention broken screw extractors, multiple burned up drill bits, frayed nerves - aggravation.

When the bike is level and straight upright (not leaning on Jiffy stand) the lube level should be just below the clutch disc diaphram spring plate.

The books say the primary takes 32 ounces. If I pour 32 ounces into mine I get clutch drag from over-filling. Mine is happy with 29-30 ounces, and that's what I run. It is about 1/8" or so below what the book calls for.

Some people toss the Torx screws and replace them with chrome Allens head screws. Your call. Whatever you use, coat the threads with anti-sieze and tighten them only hand tight.

You need to get a Factory Manual if you're going to be doing your own work on your bike.

Yeah, what he said!! I'd recomend changing those torx bolts out for allen bolts....they don't strip as easily. And in the case you do strip a bolt head, it's easy to get them out, but don't use screw extractors, they're a waste of time and money. If you strip one, take a 5/16 or slightly larger drill bit, drill the head of the bolt just so the head pops off. Then after you get the cover out of the way, the rest of the screw, in most cases can be unscrewed by hand suprisingly, otherwise if it's still a little tight, just take a vise grip on it and it'll come right out.

Also, I second getting yourself a factory manual, it's worth every penny if you do your own maintenance and work.
