I'm finally getting my 2009 1200 custom Sportster tomorrow with engine guards. I have been learning and riding a Honda Nighthawk 250 for the past 2 months. I want to ride it home from dealership. What can I expect ? I've taken the Harley Rider Edge and have passed.
Expect the ride to be quite different than the 250. I can handle a 250 without a problem, wish I could say the same thing for the sporty. congratulations on your purchase have a good ride home.
Congrats Ride safe Remember what you were thought. How far a ride do you have. What kind of roads ?did you ride there on the honda 250?. If same ride MUCH More NICER BIKE. Bigger Faster and Heavier. Taller but you know that any way LOL lots of luck.
You'll have to slip the clutch more to maintain low speeds but after a 40 year
layoff, I got on my 2009 1200C and managed to keep it upright so you can, too..
Its going to feel like a Cadillac compared to the Honda. Will feel much bigger and heavier. Brakes will be better but remember, there not broken in yet so go easy on the stops. Clutch catch points will be totally different also. Take it easy and you should do just fine. Good luck!
I walked into the dealership without having ridden a bike in 20 years. Had never ridden on a freeway. No riding course. No motorcycle license even, so I couldn't test drive the Sporty. I drove it home - about 15 miles - on all kinds of terrain, including a 65MPH freeway. By no means was this a smart thing to do, but I found the Sporty pretty easy to handle right away.
I don't mind exposing my stupidity to help give you confidence and to show that you're in good shape, as long as you take it easy until it the bike is comfortable.
