Wondering if anyone out there can recommend a tent to pack on my 05 1200c sportster. I already carry a lot of crap...saddlebags & have a SAC that fits over the sissy bar when the trip calls for it. I can't always check into a motel, & well, I'm not as rugged as I use to be. I fly solo but wouldn't mind something big enough for two. Thanks in advance for your help! Zanne
Hard question to answer. There are as many tents as there people looking for one. I own quite a few, everything from large canvas wall tents to ultralight single layer bivies that fit in a cup, some I've even made myself. My advice is to go to a reputable shop, stay away from walmart, sportcheck and the like. Mountaineering, kayaking or hiking shops will have the best selection and quality. Those shops will have knowledgable and helpful staff that will let you unpackage them and set them up before you buy. Remember that you get what you pay for, a good tent will last a long time.
Good names are MSR, Mountain Hardgear, Moss (if someone will part with one), Mountain Equipment Co-Op.
I have used a Timberline Eureka for a few years backpacking. It is an excellent value, A-frame sty;e without the middle pole, easy to set up and take down, big enough for two, or one and any stuff you want to dry. Costs around 150 at any good sporting goods store, spare parts and accessories available.
