For the last few months I have been having problems with what I think is my trans. It would periodically kick me out of gear(stay in 5th for 3 seconds, then go down to 4th) or it wouldnt go into a gear at all(like it was in neutral bewteen 3rd & 4th gears). In all instances, ide change gears again & it would be fine. a couple months ago, it wouldnt go into any gear for about 30 seconds. It made a sound like the gears were rubbing/turning next to eachother instead of a grinding sound when i let out the clutch, then all of a sudden it was fine again. This happened again yesturday but without correcting itself. I did notice that right before it happened, I opend the throttle & it felt like the clutch was slipping.
Any thoughts on what this could be? Im thinking clutch but that wouldnt explain the gear issues that ive been having, would it? Im not too familiar with the inner workings of the engine/trans...almost forgot, its a 95 xl883 with 26k miles...
i bought the bike 5000 miles ago and had the dealer do a major svc at that time so was changed then. since then, ive changed just the oil once but was about to do another major service myself when this all happend. i assume level is right cause no leaks from under the engine...
Pop open that inspection window and have a look see, unless you did it yourself you can't safely assume anything.......especially when it comes to the stealers.
This kid I know had his 1k service done at the stealer and they forgot to fill his bike back up with oil , he got about 3 mi down the road and noticed something wasn't right. They then told him it was because of the air cleaner and pipes that he put on and his bike was just burning oil.........3 qts in 3 miles? You just never know what could happen.
its summer pretty much year round out here(LA) im having a pro look at it tho cause im not familiar w/the inner stuff.
Where in LA are you? I just got down here and was wondering how much of the year I'll be able to ride. I'm origionally from MI so the riding season isn't too long.
