Default Nightster Paint?!
Anyone haven problems with the flat colors chipping on rear fenders?

How hard is it to repaint the brilliant silver?

No problems yet with my paint (Just wanted to bring this old thread back to life to see how the Nightster owners paint is holding up)

Have an '08 883 standard and both fenders are chipping at rear edge.

I have heard it is isolated to the 2008 bikes,but who knows.

My 08 Olive Green Nightster has chipping at the edge of both front and rear fenders.

Here's some pictures of what's happening on my '08 with 6800 miles. It totally flaked off of the trailing edge of the rear fender, where I had to sand it down and paint a flat black stripe across the trailing edge. It looks like it belongs there, but it doesn't! :frownone You could clearly see on that spot that came off that there was absolutely NO PRIMER whatsoever applied to the fender.

Yeah I have heard about the "no primer" problem before (google it) in the UK I was told when I bought my Nightster last year that HD no longer offer a warranty on the paint, thats when I swore I will never buy another new Harley

Sounds like its time for a class-action. I worked for GM in the early 90's in a body shop, where we stripped and repainted HUNDREDS of pickups and suburbans due to their paint peeling,(and that was just one dealership in Bozeman, MT)regardless of whether they were the original owner or not. I am not an advocate for law suits necessarily, but things like this warrant it.

08 was the year the economy took a **** so it may have hindered quality so that the bike could still be affordable. Theres no excuse still so its something Harley should probably be made aware of.
