I have a 1993 883 with only 6,500 miles and I need to sell it for cash. I need to get $3000 or very close to it. My problem is it just started to leak oil. It looks as if it coming from the head gasket. I can't afford to have it fixed. Is it a hard fix? Or do you think someone would buy it as is?
For what it's worth Kelly Blue Book retail price for a '93 883 is $3,075. I would say given the ridiculously low miles and the add-ons you may be able to find someone who is interested, especially in the spring not sure about now. May not get the full $3,000 but I would get an idea of how much it would cost to fix the leak and be honest and up front. If its not that bad of a price i would think about doing it yourself.
Rocker box gasket leak? Those aren't expensive to fix at all. I think the Indy charged me $75 to replace my rear rocker box gasket.
You should be able to easily get $3000 for your sportster, but it may have to be next spring....that's when the folks with the riding bug would really be looking for a "deal", and you'll get more. If you can wait that long, that is...
Maybe research with your dealer/indy how much the fix would cost, and disclose to a prospective buyer. Or do what the guy who sold me my 93 did.....clean it up real good and let me figure out that it doesn't cost that much to fix any way.
