Unhappy Rusty Plug Wires

Last night, I went to inspect the plugs on my 02 883, and found that I could not take one of the plug wires off as it was rusted and fused to the plug. I had to put some penetrating oil on the connection after peeling the boot off in order to be able to get the cable and plug off.

I got the bike this spring, and had checked everything out when I bought it. It has always been garaged, and the times I have had to park it outside at work, I have always covered it. Granted, we have had a very wet summer, but I have never seen plug wires rusted over this bad.

I was planning to go to the stealer after work to pick up a new set of plugs and a pair of 10mm SE wires so that I can start riding again.

Considering that the rusty wires are OEM, are there any better wires out there? I'll get them asap to replace the OEMs that I am buying today.

As with all other electrical connections on the bike, apply a coat of dielectric grease to the connectors.

Harley wires are REAL cheap even there Screamin Beagle stuff, I found rust and corrosion on my 2000 about 6 months after buying it.
Do yourself a favor and order a set of MagNaCore wires they are top of the line, don't cost that much and will last forever.

2004, 50,000 miles and still running strong with the original stock wires without any problems.

Thanks for the advise, I ordered the Magnecors and the guy overnighted them. The HD wires were 20 bucks, and these were 38. Not a bad deal.

You'll like them I have them on everything I own, except my lawn mower.

Default Harley electrics.

These elec problims are a little concerning i've pretty much checked out all the vizable conections and tried to seal the back of the conectors againt corrosion creep(weird they have put nifty little concertina water tight conectors on some joins and then the rear of the conector is exposed.).Does any one know of a hidden lurky that needs to be sealed.I mean one in particular that gives trouble.
