Old fender guys( on) position is on top, where as my 20001 883 it is on the bottom.
Interesting, as most Harley's over the years have used the same 'fuel valve' arrangement as shown in the below picture.
This is from the 2005 883 and 1200 Sportster Owners Manual.
12 O'clock position reads "On"
3 O'clock position reads "Off"
6 O'clock position reads "Reserve"
And the unused 9 O'clock position just reads "Fuel"
When they talk about the "handle" it is in reference to the bottom long portion of the ****. The short side of the **** (with the line) points to the selected position.
What confuses most people is that logic would dictate that the long end of the lever would be the "pointy" end. It's not. The short end of the lever is what you want pointing towards your desired function.
You guys...are too cool!!!...Just ask a question, and the help is there, and to take the time to post the pics is a very nice things to do. I too found the manual confusing, but everybody tells me riding a motorcycle just ain't logical anyway!!!
I am a new rider too...and I love my 06 1200L I can't get enough, I am tiring my hubby out, he rides all over the place on his 06 Road King Classic and I am right behind!!! We live in South Jersey and contrary to the rap Jersey gets...down here it's just beautiful, we have the pine barrens with miles and miles of newly paved roads and no traffic. We rode 125 miles on Saturday and then stopped for late lunch having the best smoked ribs and chicken ever. Then on Sunday we rode another 120 up to New Hope Pa. a crazy little biker town where the entire town is all about bikes on the weekends. I parked my bike with all the big boys, it was too cool!! But my vote went out to this gorgeous woman on a custom purple bike, all chromed and stretched with wild paint, riding with a male counterpart on another gorgeous machine.
Its great to go somewhere that people appreciate oogling at bikes like daddies in a nursery, I too look at the add ons and changes, seeing all kinds of things I want to do to my bike.
I just got a call from the dealer that my rack is in so today I will pick that up and try to install it over the weekend...or flash the baby blues at hubby!!! Then ride ride ride...till Sunday nite rolls around, god they go by too fast.
Anyway, thanks for all the info..and if anybody knows the level of difficulty putting a 4 rail rack on the back fender with a docking station..please do tell.
Brenda ..if you happen to read this..I hope the camping was good..I love to do that too..I know a great little place on the bay in MD..nice for bikes. But Sporty and keep going..let me know if you are getting more comfortable.
