does riding from GA to CA, Alaska to Ecuador , one continous trip on an Iron Head count?
Impossible, and doesn't count, unless you rode a KLR 650. LoL....

Just kidding...

Seriously, that must have been a heck of a trip, especially on an Iron Head..

Also, here is a very entertaining site that I have saved. Not sure where I got it, or if it's been posted here before, but it's a detail account (with pictures) of a trip up to the Artic Circle that a guy made on his Sportster back in 1996.

http://www.niia.net/~leduc_mike/index.html

I lived in Fairbanks, AK, for a number of years, great place for bikers, lot's of open road, and beautiful country...

So far my longest trip has been about 200 miles that I acutally did all on my own this weekend. I traveled the parkway in NJ to visit my aunt, uncle, and grandma in a few different stops. Riding on the parkway wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been..being my first real time on the highway myself. Not the most exciting ride (not many twisties), but fun none the less!

Talked to an oldtimer ( 70+ ) in the shop while I was getting my 1K service done . He was getting a new rear tire and a oil/filter change . He and another biker had come from I believe Mass. and taken the scenic route to Calif . and was nowhere near being through with their trip as they were headed to Canada before heading back to Mass. . He has driving an older 1200 , pre rubber mount and chain drive with a few changes . He had forward controls , bigger gas tank , throw over saddlebags and a windshield , his own little SportsterGlide ! Bet by the end of his trip he put on 10K miles , thats a BUNCH !

I made an approximately 400 mile round trip in one day. I went from the the Virginia Beach area to Patriot HD in Fairfax Va. for Rolling Thunder on Memorial Day weekend. I was going around 80mph most of the way on my 883C and everything was fine. My butt did get a little sore but other than that it was fun.

1,850 miles from Pensacola to Key West and back. We rode 400-450 miles on three of the five traveling days. Here is the link to the thread:

I have made a few 1,000 plus mile trips over a 3-5 day run on a 96 1200 XL. The longest (time and miles) 1 day trip was to Deals Gap. 14 hours and 602 miles with about 100 of those on the interstate. Sore butt, nothing permanent.

Took a trip with my son and his 1200C last August, we rode from North Carolina to Indiana and back, 1,512 miles round trip. He put on a windshield and a Mustang seat before we left. We traded rides a few times during the trip. The Sporty was a pretty good ride with the addidtion of the windshield and the seat.

We're going to York, PA this year to take a tour of the H-D factory, tour Getttysburg and then come back down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Should be around 1,200 miles.

My father and I rode to Fairbanks, AK from Columbus, GA during the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, to visit one of his Vietnam buddies. He was on an Electra Glide, me on a Sportster. I really don't know what the mileage was. We took two weeks to get there. On the turn around, we made it all the way back to Denver, Colorado. Dad's fairing was busted, my tranny was missing two gears. We went to a local HD shop and Dad paid them to crate the bikes and ship them to Archie's HD in Columbus. We found the nearest Greyhound station and limped home.
I learned a lot about myself on that trip. Learned a lot about my dad, too. We slept outside most nights, only getting a hotel two or three times so we could take a good hot shower. I learned how to gas up my bike without ever getting off. Dad wouldn't stop for me and I had to fill up alot more often than he did. There were a few cold nights up on the Alcan highway where we parked the bikes next to each other, covered them with a poncho and let the warmth from the engines kill the chill.
My dad kept riding till he died. I kept my old sportster all these years and just gave it to my son. I don't think I could ever get rid of that thing. I told him that he can have the title when I die, or when he gives it to his kid, whichever comes first.
