JAMBAJUICE,As far as gettin' **** goes,I understand the misplacement you might feel on the road by other HD owners. But to be completely honest,I've bar hopped, rally rode, and bike fested my IRON,and I've had nothing but compliments and friendly sportster stories from former XL owners. You might be pleasantly surprised just how many guys enjoy and miss sportsters!

why does anyone pick a 1200 when there is a 1584
why does anyone pick a 1584 when there is a 1700
why does anyone pick a 1700 when there is a 1800

Gee I don't know price maybe?

I will let fate decide at this point...if an Iron becomes availabe I will get it...if not I will get the Nighster...

For my first HD I cannot wrong with either choice...

Had a guy on here maybe a year ago that said an 883 probably wouldn't even have enough power to pull itself in 5th gear. Whatta ding bat.

Right, and back in the day, a CB750 was all the rage.

The pricetag on the Iron is very appealing...leaving more time to slowly do upgrades...

And seeing the way some members have made them (both bikes) look old school is where I would like to go...

My problem is that I am getting a ton of crap from some of the local HD guys saying why waste my money even getting one if I get the 883 Iron...kind of pisses me off...I know its not a big boy hog but dang they can be brutal...

At any rate great forum and hope to learn even more...

If by "guys" you mean a dealer, find someplace else to buy the motorcycle you want.

If by "guys" you mean your buddies, give them the finger and buy the motorcycle you want.

Very true and good advice...

Looks like I might be able to get an Iron 883 this sat...dealer called and I placed a deposit...of course I never call it a done deal until I am actually driving that bad boy home...

Stoked to be joining the crowd and cannot wait to start changing it up to my liking...

Thanks again everyone

Ok, so i don't know much about motorcycles in general. I want to know the real difference between an 883 and a 1200 because most people i've talked to said to never buy an 883, it's a girls bike. I bought a 1200 because both my brother and my dad said i wouldn't want a 883. Not because it's a bad bike but because it didn't have enough power. It's the first bike i've owned since i was 13 and had a 50cc honda. My sporters has vance and hines pipes, screaming eagle "ignition I think" and kuryakyn air cleaner. So i would think it would be fast but it doesn't really seem that fast. It has a lot of power and is quick til about 55, then it kind of maxes out at 70. At 70 it's doing a little over 3 grand on the tack. It's a 1996 sporter sport. That seems ok to me but not outstanding, kind of the minimum that i would expect from any motorcycle. Does an 883 have even less power than that or is my bike just a dud. I know for a fact it can do over 100 but i'm about riding, not racing....that's what muscle cars are for in my book. I'm only posting because i've heard a lot of "this is why i like an 883 or 1200" but i haven't heard a real description in the difference as far as capabilities.
