If you do your homework, you can answer that question.
I could easily afford a 1200, and aready have one, but the new 883 Iron was the Right platform for my next project. It had cast wheels and was all blacked out and geared lower than the Nightster, plus it was 2K cheaper. Seeing as how I was gonna go with NRHS heads and 1250 jugs anyway, it was a no brainer.
Hey, when I first bought my '07 XL1200C I too wondered why HD bothered to make an 883. i even posted here some insulting coments about it and stated HD would be better off retiring the whole 883 line. I confess I'm a convert now. I have three new HD's, a Road King, an XL1200C, and an 883 Iron. I consider the 883 Iron the best buy ever from HD.
I have asked the same question...Why does HD even both to make the 883? Why not just make them all 1200's and make a budget model for those that need to save the bucks. The only 3k difference in the 2 bikes is on paper.
883 is a classic...The only bike that comes to mind when you say 883 is a Harley Sportster. Why change a good thing. Harley needs to sell bikes and make money.
