I recently bought a 2006 883 Custom. This is the first Harley Davidson I have owned. I'm wanting to Chrome the Primary and Gear case. I noticed you can buy Chrome covers for these parts. Does anyone have Chrome covers on their Sportsters? I was wondering how they look compared to a full chromed part? Also, this may be a stupid question, but do the covers cause heat problems due to the fact the engine is being covered by another layer of metal?
RW88,
I like to see some photos too, if you have them. I was thinking about doing the same thing to my XL1200R. They don't look hard to put on and the price is right. Did you put yours on yourself?
I bought the flame collection derby, timing cover they call it, airfilter cover and fuel cap medalion but it doesnt work for a 883 standard. Very easy to install, your going to need a good set of torq bits to remove the covers. The derby covers you going to also need a 8mm allen wrench if you have standard clutch controls, i just removed the rear allen bolt, gave it a bump and it cleared the torque bolt behind it. Also found its a good idea if you have someone tilt the bike to the opposite side, i had some oil come out, not much. Price wasnt bad, bought brand new from a seller on ebay for about 30.00 less then from the dealer.
