I have a 2008 1200C and have removed the front and rear reflectors, center stainless trim on gas tank and both tank emblems. Texas heat combined with dental floss and goo gone took care of all of them with no problem. My tank emblems were on top of the clear coat and you can never tell they were there. I did a good high speed polish and wax to remove the small scratches left behind in the clear coat due to me scrubbing the excess adhesive off. My sig pic only shows the rear reflectors and tank trim removed.
The 1200C models have an actual 'emblem' on each side of the tank (see below pictures)...
Most of the other models have a flat 'decal' that is applied on the tank before the clear coat goes on.
If you have emblems, use some heat - heat gun or blow dryer - and fixhing line run the line under the emblem and through the tape underneath. clean up the remainder with clear coat safe goo remover.
If it's a decal, once you've removed it, you maybe in for more of paint job than you bargained for.
If it's silk-screened, you maybe able to just paint over the whoe thing.
Of course, unless it's the 1st option (emblem), going for a new metal, and selling what you have may be the best way to go.

i learned a trick removing some decals that were on my car. I was using and adhesive remover/ decal remover and it wasnt taking all of the sticky stuff off. Remember when you were a kid and you had the big pink erasers.....good time to take you back to your kid years. Get a big pink eraser and use it on the sticky stuff....no need to buy goo gone or anything like that.
You prob want to write this down....are you ready?
Pull up a corner and just peel it off.
Its kinda difficult but take your time and all them stickers will be gone.

Sounds very simple.
But how do you get under the thick layer of 'clear coat' to "pull up a corner and just peel it off"?
