Default Oil tank question.

Hey guys hows it going? I'm thinking in a while (as in when I own my bike and can afford to do **** to it haha) I want to cut the frame on my 883 and lower the seat about 3 inches, but to do this I need to relocate the battery and oil tank. As far as the battery goes thats no problem I'll just get one of those sealed batteries thet can I can mount on its side and it should make enough space but I was just wondering as to how small an oil tank I can get away with on my bike. If I could get away with a tank thats around 3/4 or 2/3 the size or smaller than my current stock tank that would great, thanks guys.

In my humble opinion, I think HD put the smallest oil tank they could on the bike. Others may take issue, but I personally would not reduce its size...

I don't know this but, my thinking is that the oil plays a major role in cooling the engine and if you deminish the amount of oil circulating thru the engine you would end up with hotter oil which would result in a hotter engine which is a no-no.

Im with the others I dont think you would want to go any smaller on the oil tank.Best to save your money and get a differnt frame if your wanting to lower the seat by that much.May be another way but I think thats probably the best way to go.JMHO

I thought someone here had a link to a company that made a kit to lower the seat. I do rembember that it was for the 03 and older models. . .
