would appreciate the do's and don't...thanks, marion..
To my understanding the pre 2000 wheel bearings are not sealed & require greasing every 10,000 miles, similar to the head bearings on current moddels. If your axle has ever been hit with a hammer (stealership's favorite method of removing axles) then you will not be able to check the wheel bearing runnout by the mag base indicator placed on the brake disc. I have only worked on the 2000 & newer sealed wheel bearings & neck bearings. Easy stuff, lots of grease.
I use blocking under the frame. Slide the biggest block possible under the frame with your bike standing up straight 6x6 or 8x8. I then tip it to one side and slide a 1x4 or 2x4 under one side of the frame, then do the other side. It may not be balanced front to rear. Pull one wheel at a time and do the bearings.
