Default Anyone notice a difference?

I've had the SE stage 1 air cleaner on for about 10,000 miles and I replaced it with a K & N filter. Has anyone waited that long and then replaced it? Was the difference obvious? Did the same on my electra glide. Sportster was MUCH dirtier.

i'm not sure i understand the question here. are you asking about a performance difference or asking about a difference in the filter's ability to capture dust?

Was the bike being able to breathe better noticeable? Did it seem to run smoother? Idle a little better? Maybe a little more ooompf? All or none of the above.

I replaced the HD filter with a K&N filter in my SE air cleaner after over 35,000 miles. And I noticed a pretty big difference. I even re-tuned my carb after that change to accommodate the increased airflow. The bike was a lot more happy with the K&N. Better idle, and significant increase in fuel economy.

So is the opinion here that the K and N is better and probably should be put in the SE AC at the beginning?

I would recommend that. In my case, K&N didn't make a filter for the Sporty SE air cleaner until I had put about 35,000 miles on the bike after the SE air cleaner.

The SE one, like mine, you should use. After all the kit is over a hundred dollars (and we're shocked in WHAT way) . Now I have a K & N for life. Better deal. I would fire the puppy up but it's in the shed, which is still surrounded by snow. surrounded by mud, which is surrounded by a lake called my front yard. and I don't want to inhale any CO and give the Natural Selection advocates any fuel for the fire.

A K&N air filter in the stock A/C filter can isn't going to do squat. You need the K&N in a high flow A/C can, like the SE, Big Sucker, Hurricane Flow, etc.
