I am trying to fit a set of Rineharts slip ons to an 09 sporty. The back one goes on fine. The front wont go past a certain point - about 1/4 inch too short to mount the bolts. I have checked that i have got the right front/back muffler and lubricated the metal but with out success. Any ideas?
Thanks for this but no. It seems that there is a'step' in the down pipe, less than a finger nail width but enough to stop progress. It looks - madly - as though I have to take the pipe off and get it turned down by a fraction and for about half an inch in length. This is madness.
Stick it inside the muffler pipe where it slides onto the header pipe, snug it up by hand, tighten it a 1/4 turn, loosen it, hand snug it again, tighten it again a 1/4 turn. Do that for about 4 cycles and be careful, if you over do it, you'll crack the finish on the muffler. I do this when ever I change a muffler on my Jeep, did it with my slip-ons too. It makes life so much easier.
well I tried spreading the flange but without success. Then I swapped the mufflers front to back and they fit fine. The instructions says that they are designed front back but if they fit I cants see how they would be different? Shall I just carry on?
Well the mystery is solved. The pipes sold to me as a straight fit for mine end up being for an 01 to 07. I don't know what the difference is but there you go. Now though - the things fit, even the wrong way round so same question - is there a material difference between an 07 Sporty (where I am not running the 02 sensors and an 09? I just want to fire this sucker up!!!
