IMO the XL1200R Roadster was more of a traditional looking and performing Sportster model. With the dual disk brake setup in front and the tachometer as stock equipment and about the lowest sticker price for a 1200 Sportster, I thought that it was a no-brainer best buy! I had my money all saved up for one, a black one, until I heard a rumor that HD was going to start selling the XR1200 over here in the good ol’ US of A. I waited a little bit and sure enough, I got an E-Mail asking if I wanted to own one of the first of the 750 XR1200 Sportsters being offered here in North America. I wasted no time in putting down my deposit and received my bike early in December 2008. I kind of think of the XR1200 as a different model and not so much as a replacement model as it is not very traditional looking as a Sportster for most people and it is really more of a niche model to begin with. I like the Roadster model a lot but I really LOVE my XR1200. Hey man, enjoy your bike and ride safe out there!

After I'd ordered my RKC I was looking at the Nightsters on the showroom floor. I was thinking of an around town (NYC) bike I could commute on and the Nightsters are great looking bikes. My salesman friend came up to me and said, "You don't want one of those, too small for you. A 1200R would be much better." I'm average size but I ride hard. I asked if he had any with the peanut tank. I feel a Sportster needs to have shorty duels and a peanut tank. he said the last year like that was 2007 but they didn't have any used in from trade-in because that was the year and model he was looking for.

I finally found one almost by accident on Craig's List in Pittsburgh with 1800 miles on it. Then I started to work on it:

HotLap, I agree with the "steel". If the XR would have looked anything like the XR 750 I would own one. The pipes and large **** ruined it for me.

The sportster sport had dual plug heads. And an adjustable front suspension and the best rear shocks harley ever put on a sportster.
