I have a2004 xl883c sportster, I Can tell when to change the gears from the sound, but I was wondering what the maximum speeds for each of the five gears are. The bike does not have a tach.
i will never forget the first time i got on my bike... trying like crazy to find the tach. couldnt believe that it didnt have a tach. that was until i got on the bike and hit it hard. i quickly realized that looking at the tach would be the wrong place for my eyes!
this bike wants to be riden by its sound. it has such great low end torque that it seems hard to shift at the wrong time. and so far i havent found the rev limiter!
you dont want to be looking at a tach or speedo- just listen. it will tell you when to shift.

883 converted to 1200 will be the same as the 883 numbers. Unless you have also changed the gearing or drive ratios.
Those are some handy charts!
To the OP, you should worry more about the minimum speed to shift into a particular gear. The Rev limiter will stop you from going over the maximum, but being in too high of a gear for the speed will lug the engine which is quite harmful.
