Hello from columbus too. I have an 06 roadster and I have done many 500 mile days on it. Saturday I did about 400 with the GF on the back. When I got the bike last Sept I did about 3000 miles in a month and a half. Lots of exploring and riding the great roads around here.
I have the sundowner and still get sore from time to time. The air hawk works great. Iron pony has them in stock now.
I have a windshield and its great for gettin the wind off your chest and helps with fatigue on the longer trips. Also I did the road king shock mod for it. Made a world of difference and its great for when I want to take the gf as I simply add more air to the shocks or let it back out when solo.
I don't regret getting the bike. I would do it again. Course now I have the bug to get a Vrod because I love the looks. If the GF wants my roadster then I get to work on lowering it.
very doable... i went from charleston, sc to sanfran, going north and south in between, riding about 8 hrs a day in average, i had a stupid windshield, the airhawk (useless piece of crap), no saddlebag, just a backpack, and got the feeling i was carrying way too much stuff...
i'll do it all over again as soon as i get some vacation time.
I rode back and forth from Charleston, SC to Savannah, GA every week for a while and it wasn't too bad. I think if i had some higway pegs it wouldn't be bad at all. A good seat pays you back ten times over too.
