Had a biker looking guy almost run over me in a mini van. I was in the left lane and he was in the curb lane. The light about 100 yards of us turns red and he desides that he wants the inside lane so he can be first at the traffic light since there was a car already in front of him. My front whell was right beside his rear bumper and I was in the right side of my lane, so theres no reason why he couldn't see me out of his side view mirror. He just comes right over with no warning at all and I had to lock up my front brake so he wouldn't take me out, I thought I was going down for sure but lucky me I released the front brake just in time to hold the bike up. After I got stopped the next thing I knew I heard this blonde lady in a car beside me say OH MY GOD, that guy almost took you out. Then I started yelling at the guy and started saying are you blind man didn't you see me beside you. The buy didn't give me any sign at all that he was sorry. The next light I pulled up beside him and gave him a few choise words and I even said to him that you look like a biker dude more than I do man. All he did was just stare straight ahead. Always keep your eyes open people, even our own kind can take us out. Sorry for the long rant, I'm still shaking from that.
Sorry that happend to you. It pisses us all off when we realize how quickly we can get seriously hurt or killed! Seems more and more that it happens to me about every time I ride. I just got back in and logged more than 220 miles since 10 this morning. And sure enough this morning at our meeting place....some old fart just about pulled out in front of me as he was exiting a restaurant. I was going to turn into the same restaurant and I just stopped and waved his dumb a** ahead so that he would go on and pull out. There was already one bike there this morning and saw the whole incident. I pulled in and started bitching...put me in a bad mood early on.
as everybody knows, when you ride you have to look out for the other driver. You need to learn to predict the future. I mean predict what that other driver is going to do before he does it. Know that when you come up to the light there is someone that is going to jump over to try and beat the car in front of him. Pass him or stay away from him. Expect that old guy in the parking lot to pull out in front of you. It may not be right and **** you off but you will stay alive. Careless drivers will always be out there. Winter is just now over and they are not used to looking for bikes.
I try to ride as if I were invisible to other drivers.
Also his-vis clothing and extra lights.
But when someone has their head up and locked, seems as if nothing will help.
Guess we're all guilty of that at one time or another.
Anyway, glad you caught it in time and are ok.
I almost got hit yesterday, left a nice boot shaped dent in the side of a minivan. I was driving through a parking lot legally from the gas station and some guy on a minivan came across the parking spots from behind me and cut across in front of me to get to the exit first. its not like he couldnt see me since we made eye contact as he passed me. Scared the crap out of me but I think I may have scared him worse after I kicked the van cause he made his turn out onto the rode and took off like a bat out of hell.
